“Coffee’s for closers”

by Brooke on February 22, 2011

In the movie Glengarry Glen Ross, Alec Baldwin gives a seven minute speech that almost earned him a Oscar.    Here is the clip where Baldwin plays the character Blake:

In the clip, Blake stated that, “coffee’s for closers.”   What are great line!  So many individuals want to lose weight, but also want to have many many sweets along the way, don’t want to exercise, or want a fast fix without putting in any effort.  I always get asked, “can I still eat these treats while I am trying to lose weight.”  Well…yes you could, but it is not going to help you reach your ultimate goal in a timely manner.  If you are in a weight maintenance stage then by all means enjoy the foods you love in moderation! For example, at least once a week I go out and enjoy my favorite foods…normally a burger and fries.  However, I am in the weight maintenance stage and not trying to lose weight.

The line “coffee’s for closers” can even be applied to losing weight.  Health is for closers only! You have to do the work before you reach your goal and if you don’t you will get third prize and like they say in the movie, “third prize you fired.”

The bottom line is you have to put in some effort before you enjoy the reward.

The reward could be reaching your weight loss goal or enjoying a simple cup of coffee ; )  However, in order to enjoy the reward you simply must put in some effort!  If you really want to lose weight don’t cut corners…work hard and and you will be successful!

Interesting post. I see the pendulum swinging from the ultimate stict diets to “everything in moderation” and feel it does leave people thinking they can have everything while trying to lose weight. It does take work people, thanks to you for pointing that out. Have a post for tomorrow you may like about dessert, along same lines.
