San Francisco: Vacation and Exercise

Post image for San Francisco: Vacation and Exercise

This past weekend, I was in San Francisco visiting one fabulous Registered Dietitian named Corinne Dobbas. I just got back to Chicago late last night and I am still exhausted from all the fun I had! It is often hard to stick with your normal exercise routine on vacation, but that doesn’t mean you can’t mix it up and use your trip to find new ways to stay active.  During my trip, I was able to get in some physical activity three different ways:

1) On Friday night, I went to a fabulous David Bowie Tribute show at the DNA Lounge. I had so much fun watching the show and dancing to all the songs.  What a great way to get in a little physical activity!

2) Corinne and I took a Hop On Hop Off San Francisco Bus TourWe were able to hop on and off at any of the 19 stops that the tour offered. I think we burned a lot of calories just chasing our bus down most of the day!  We either kept missing it or had to wait long periods of time for it to get through traffic.  One of my favorite stops was the “crookedest street in the world” aka Lombard Street.  The walk up and down that street was most definitely a great leg workout.  The street was so steep that I felt like I was skiing, because of the angle I was leaning.  Here is a picture of me trying to ski uphill.

Here was the view from the bottom of the hill.

Here was the view once we made it to the top of the “crookedest street of the world.”

3) One evening, Corrine and I went to the Bay Club San Francisco to workout.  I ran four miles and got to shoot some baskets on their basketball court.

I had such a wonderful time in San Francisco!  It was also nice to get in some physical activity on the trip that was both typical and a little out of the ordinary.

Thanks again to Corrine Dobbas for having me!

Actually, Lombard is not even the most crooked street in SF., that would be Vermont St., but there’s nothing there for tourists, just dog-walkers and big-wheel racers.
